Canadian orgs say no to U.S. forced starvation of, & threats of war against Cuba… Why doesn’t the Canadian government?

We say “NO” to U.S. threats of war on Cuba. Why doesn’t the Canadian government?

The unlawful U.S. fuel blockade is inflicting mass suffering on the people of Cuba, violating their rights to life and health. Now, the Trump administration is threatening military attack. We raise our voices with millions of people in Canada and around the world who say “NO” to this injustice.

We urgently call on Prime Minister Mark Carney to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Cuba, cornerstone rights of all states under international law. Canada must:

  • Publicly oppose and work to stop a U.S. military intervention in Cuba

  • Speak out forcefully against unlawful U.S. coercive measures to withhold fuel and starve the Cuban people

  • Work more determinedly with the United Nations and other countries to get fuel and other life-sustaining supplies to Cuba without delay

Background
From the Mallory Memo, 1960, to today: U.S. has tried to overthrow Cuban government through violence, hunger, hardship, desperation

On April 6, 1960, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs Lester Mallory published a memo, titled “The Decline and Fall of Castro”, that says:

“The only foreseeable means of alienating internal support is through disenchantment and disaffection based on economic dissatisfaction and hardship.” “[The goal is] to decrease monetary and real wages, to bring about hunger, desperation, and overthrow of government.”
