“Exterminate All The Brutes” (HBO documentary series)

Rights Action recommends this four-part HBO documentary series (filmmaker Raoul Peck) that looks at the history and legacy of white, Christian-led, violent European imperialism and colonialism - and very specifically settler colonialism.

I recommend this series, particularly in the US and Canada. It provides a clear historical analysis that helps explain on-going US-led imperialism and economic exploitation and violence in Central America, particularly in Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador, and in a different fashion in Nicaragua.

“There is something we need to talk about.
Three words that summarize the whole of humanity: civilization, colonialization, extermination. I just want to understand why do I bring myself into this story,
because I am an immigrant from a shithole country.”
(Raoul Peck, narrating film)

Exterminate All The Brutes helps explain the inequalities, racisms, discriminations and violences that characterize life inside the US today (and in important ways inside Canada). It helps explain the huge inequalities, discriminations and violences of the global political, economic, military order, imposed in large by rich powerful countries and their institutions on regions of the ‘global south’, regions like Central America.

Rights Action’s work takes place in the historical and present day context of what “Exterminate All The Brutes” lays bare.
