Demand return of five Garifuna land & rights defenders Disappeared by U.S. & Canadian-backed Honduran regime

Rights Action joins the Honduras Solidarity Network (HSN) in support for demand of the Garifuna people in Honduras for the return of five Garifuna land/rights defenders forcibly disappeared on July 18, 2020 by the U.S. and Canadian-backed Honduran regime.

Following the leadership of OFRANEH, the leading Garifuna land, rights and environmental defense organization, the HSN (http://www.hondurassolidarity.org/) circulates this letter addressed to the U.S., Canadian, and Honduran governments demanding the return of the disappeared and an end to State and private sector repression against the Garifuna communities in Honduras.

It’s been over three months since the forced disappearances of five men - Snider Centeno, Suami Mejía, Milton Martínez, Gerardo Rochez and Junior Juárez - from the afro-indigenous Garifuna community of Triunfo de la Cruz, located on the north coast of Honduras. Their whereabouts are still unknown and no progress has been made in the investigation.
