Death threats linked to US mining company Aura Minerals in Honduras

Fredy Garcia, a land and human rights defender from Azacualpa, Honduras, is in danger for opposing the transnational mining company Aura Minerals/MINOSA. People have been showing up at this home, looking for him and threatening him.

These threats are happening after Fredy García reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office that he had received death threats from Jacobo Paz, community relations manager for Aura Minerals/MINOSA, and Dimar Miranda Pérez, a contractor for the mining company.

The threats came after Fredy García, together with his community, stopped Aura/MINOSA from exploiting and destroying the water reservoir that supplies the community of La Ceibita.

For over 15 years, Aura Minerals has been operating a mountain-top removal, cyanide leaching gold mine in western Honduras.
