Since 1998, Rights Action has supported OFRANEH (Organizacion Fraternal Negra de Honduras), highlighted in this article, the leading Indigenous-Garifuna rights organization in Honduras.  Many members of OFRANEH have been shot, killed and attacked by police, soldiers and private sector thugs working on behalf of the global tourism industry, as well as the global African palm industry and narco-traffickers.  This situation of repression, corruption and impunity has worsened significantly since the 2009 U.S. and Canadian backed military coup in Honduras.
