Day 21 of Honduran Coup Resistance, Alert #29
PEOPLE OF CATACAMAS, OLANCHO, TAKE BACK PRESIDENT ZELAYA’S FAMILY HOME FROM ARMED FORCES OCCUPATION
President Zelaya is from Catacamas, Olancho. On July 17, the local population learned that the Armed Forces had illegally taken control of his property and home, entering, searching and occupying his family home.
Indignant, between 4 and 5,000 Hondurans from Catacamas and nearby Jutigalpa gathered this morning in a local public school – the 18th of November Colegio. There, they decided to march 2 kilometers through Catacamas, to the President’s family home.
When they arrived, the soldiers present came out of the house, and pulled back. The pro-democracy crowd went peacefully and respectfully on to Zelaya’s property and into the house, where they remain now.
As of 10pm, July 18, 2009, there are still some 2000 people there. Soon, they will decide if they spend the night there or not. Either way, they will be there early tomorrow morning, to again ensure that the Armed Forces do not enter Zelaya’s property or home.
